It’s that time of year! If you are interested in sampling in the Oatka Watershed, and want some advice on locations, contact Pete<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The WAVE Sampling Season Begins Today<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

WAVErs,<\/p>\n

The WAVE sampling season begins today and runs through September 30th. Here are a few reminders for the sampling season:<\/p>\n

1. It is no longer required but I encourage you to submit sampling locations to me using this online tool:http:\/\/www.hrecos.org\/WAVE.Data\/WAVE.html<\/a>
\nI can often determine a site cannot be sampled using satellite images. This saves you time and frustration wasted on an inappropriate location.
\n2. When you sample, please include all the participants at the site on your data sheet (including children). These numbers help me track the progress of the project;
\n3. After you sample, you have until November 1st to submit your sample vials and data sheets. The simplest way to do so is to mail them to my office according to the USPS instructions given at the bottom of this notice.
\n4. Finally, please photograph\/video your sampling events and share these with me! I have many uses for these materials. For example, I’ll be posting to the NYSDEC Facebook page to highlight the wonderful work you do.<\/strong>

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MAIL WAVE SAMPLES<\/strong><\/p>\n

Use the following USPS instructions to mail completed WAVE samples to my office:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Packaging Instructions 3A in Appendix C of PUB 52<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Separate packaging requirements apply depending on the flashpoint of the flammable liquid.<\/p>\n

For flashpoint greater than 20\u00ba F (\u20137\u00ba C) but not more than 73\u00ba F (23\u00ba C): Primary Receptacle<\/strong>
\n\u2022 A metal primary receptacle must not exceed 1 quart.
\n\u2022 A nonmetal primary receptacle must not exceed 1 pint.
\n\u2022 The primary receptacle must have a screw cap (with minimum of one\u2013and\u2013one\u2013half turns), soldering clips, or other means of secure closure (friction tops are not acceptable).
\n\u2022 Only one primary receptacle is permitted per mailpiece.
\nCushioning Material and Secondary Packaging<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Enough cushioning material must surround the primary receptacle to prevent breakage and absorb any potential leakage.
\n\u2022 The cushioning and primary receptacle must be packed in securely sealed secondary packaging.
\nOuter Packaging<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Strong outer packaging that is capable of firmly and securely holding the primary receptacle, cushioning material, and secondary packaging is required.
\nMarking<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Each mailpiece must be clearly marked on the address side with \u201cSurface Only\u201d or \u201cSurface Mail Only\u201d and \u201cConsumer Commodity ORM\u2013D.\u201d
\n\u2022 Optionally, each mailpiece may bear an approved DOT limited quantity square-on-point marking, designating surface transportation, prepared under 3b, instead of an ORM-D marking.
\n\u2022 A complete return address and delivery address must be used.<\/p>\n
