Last night, several OCWC members attended the Genesee River Watch ‘River Bash’. It was a lot of fun – there was good music, food, and information. We got to see many, many folks we have worked with.
It was an honor for the OCWC to be recognized by the GRW for our work, we were one of three recipients of the Elizabeth Thorndike Environmental Award.
“The Elizabeth Thorndike Leadership Award recognized individuals, organizations and projects that have made significant contributions to the Genesee River Watch mission to champion solutions that improve the water quality of the Genesee and initiatives that connect people to the River.”
Other recipients were the Seneca Park Zoo Society for their “One Cubic Foot” project & the Dueppengiesser Dariy Co. of Perry for their outstanding management practices and educational outreach.
OCWC’s recent Trees for Tribs projects along the lower Oatka were especially noted. It was a very nice event, and we highly recommend going next year!

We’re delaying the Storm Drain marking project until next Saturday, October 8, as there is a 50% chance of rain today, with 60% tonight. We want to give the caulk a good chance to cure properly so all our good work won’t go to waste! See you next Saturday, bright (we hope!) and early at 9:00 AM in the parking lot behind the LeRoy United Methodist Church off Trigon Park. Let’s hope the weather is bright & sunny.

Come help install markers for storm drains around the Village! It’s fun & easy, and helps remind folks that what goes down the drain, ends up in the Oatka Creek.
We will be meeting this Saturday at 9:00 AM in the parking lot behind the LeRoy United Methodist Church (off Trigon Park). We will be working until Noon. We have all the supplies, so just bring yourself and wear comfortable shoes!

Several OCWC members went to help out at the Trees for Tribs planting yesterday at Rock Glen, organized by the Wyoming County SWCD. The planting was along Oatka’s tributary, Cotton Creek – and it was a beautiful day for being outside putting trees in the ground! We got 419 trees and shrubs planted by noon – and then we got donuts!

NYSDEC invites you to join other regional stakeholders in a basinwide partnership to advance ecosystem-based management opportunities for New York’s Great Lakes basin, as identified in the state’s interim Great Lakes Action Agenda (GLAA). Meeting objectives include:
- Introduce new online collaboration tool and upcoming webinar.
- Develop a collective understanding of EBM and how it is being applied locally.
- Share progress on achieving goals of GLAA/sub-basin work plans.
- Engage stakeholders in identifying work plan pilot project(s) for implementation.
Four sub basin work groups provide a unique opportunity to connect, coordinate and collaborate with other groups and agencies working locally and basinwide.
